I should have been an explorer

Twice this week I have discovered, and walked, new roads I found on Tinian. It is always exciting discovering new things... I think I should have been an explorer!

As I began my walk this morning, our guard dog said Hi! This pretty lizard keeps watch outside out door. Terri is the only woman I know who 'likes' lizards (as long as they are pretty, and don't bother her...).

There seems to be a few 'grand openings' going on here on Tinian. The restaurant located where we live has been going through renovations. It is supposed to open this Friday! They are supposed to have live music and dancing...

I found it strange that this chicken did not run when I walked by...

But then, a small chick appeared from under her skirts...

And soon, a whole brood of chicks came out!

Followed by their friend?

Unique gardens abound on Tinian

And we even have our share of 'Pop Art'!

They have completed most of the painting on the Tinian Amphitheater

Construction continues on a fast pace

The stage of the amphitheater is almost finished also. The pavers are set in the floor...

And beautiful tiles have been laid on the walls...

and in the ceilings

Seating can now be seen, as the workers continue to build more.

In a world of flowers, one will always find bees... and with the amount of flowers on Tinian, the bees can grow rather large!

There will be another grand opening this weekend!

The new barbecue pit, located across from the Dynasty Casino has been 'in progress' for some time, but finally, it will be open to the public.

There is lots of outdoor seating--benches, picnic tables, etc.

The ocean was rough today... at least for Tinian!

For Tinian, any waves are a treat, and a danger!

And for an island where the water is more like a lake, waves bring out the safety signs!

And, as usual, you can always find an empty beach to stroll down!

And there are always a few adventurers that find a quiet place to camp

And, no matter where you go... well, what can I say?

As I mentioned, I found a new road to travel down! It is always exciting to discover something new, not knowing what I will find.

One doesn't see a lot of WWII equipment left on the island, but here is a US Army... something!

It is amazing the power of the climbing vines that are taking over parts of the island. They create images that are almost like topiary-- as though someone purposely molded the bushes into forms!

And even among the green carpet of vines, there are flowers, and, of course, the bees!

It truly is like walking into another world!

And in the meantime, the road winds through the jungle, to who knows where? I am lost, but as long as there is a road, I figure it has to end up somewhere!

And then, all of a sudden, there is a little homestead in the woods. I met and spoke to Lawrence, who was working on installing a gate to his little piece of paradise.

After following the winding road, I found myself in very familiar surroundings: there was the Amphitheater in the distance!

The hidden entrance to this road came out next to these abandoned igloos (located on the same spot as the army base was located during WWII.

There is nothing so sad as an empty playground!

Thanks for the update on Mt. Lasso. I'm not surprised it's completely overgrown if there are no buildings currently in use. We were aware of how quickly natural growth expanded when we were there.
