The Marines have arrived...and scooter news!

Marines

On my way back to Tinian from dropping off Liz in Saipan for her return trip to Utah, Terri and I ran into the Marines at the Tinian airport. There was a large c-130 cargo plane (prop type) sitting at the airport, and a small group of Marines attempting to get some food at the airport cafe. We had a chance to speak to their commanding officer, a 2-star General.

He told us they were just there for manuvers, and to his knowledge the marines were not planning to move a large group of Marines to the island--we just don't have the infrastructure. However, Guam is receiving a lot of Marines and equipment.

He was a short-timer, planning to retire in two years, after a lifetime of service in the Marine Corps. We talked to him about his family, and our son who is serving in Germany (he told us that Mike has a very difficult job as liaison for the wounded coming from Iraq). He seemed like a great guy, and Terri and I did our best to thank him and his group for their service.

Scooters

Today we bought two more scooters to use on the island. These two are different - a different make and model, and most important, they are 75cc instead of 50cc. We took them for a test drive and were very surprised at how much power they had. They took us right up the big hill with no problem--no more Flintstones power! We even tried one with the two of us, and it seemed to do just as well, even going up hills.

So now we have four scooters, two 50cc and two 75cc for use on the island. We will probably use the small scooters around town, and the bigger scooters for our trips around the island.
