Our 'Day Trip' around the island

Terri finally had a weekend off, as they brought a doctor from Saipan to fill-in for her for a couple of days, so we decided to take a tour around the island.

On the way to the blow-hole, we discovered a road we hadn't traveled yet. We both thought it was a back-way into the air fields, but it ended up to be a dead-end.

We later discovered that we had quite a few bug-bites to show for our adventure in the jungle!

The new chain-link fence they had built around the turtle sanctuary at Unai Chiget has almost completely disappeared from the advance of the jungle.

Of course their are some new signs on the fence...hmmm...

We stopped at the blow-hole, and this time decided to get a little closer (we had worn our bathing suits, as we intended to go swimming). The closer we got, the wetter we got. I swam in one of the little pools by the hole, as we continued to be showered by the mists. The water was warm, and it was quite fun to be around the mists and showers of the ocean as it was forced up through the small hole in the rocks.

We then traveled over to Runway Able on our way to the bomb pits.

We took a small road we had not traveled before, but still found our way to the bomb pit

Unfortunately, the rumors we had heard were true-- someone had vandalized one of the bomb pits, and the old pictures were missing (we had heard that at least one of the 4-5 pictures had been stolen, and we assumed that the Mayor's office took the others to protect them.

The structure is quite sturdy, and from the look of the damage, it looks as though a car was used to damage the frame, so that the thieves could gain access to the pictures.

We were both very disappointed to see the damage, and hope that they will be able to correct the problem soon.

We next traveled to Unai Lam Lam beach to swim. The road had not been used for a while.

The magical couple standing on Unai Lam Lam... We swam for about half hour or so, and saw quite a few boats traveling from Tinian to Saipan.

Here is the beach view of the picture that Liz has made famous. She took the picture from the other side of these trees...This is my favorite picture of all the ones Liz has taken of Tinian

We also noticed some wildlife while at Unai Lam Lam!

Not to be outdone, we decided to go to Suicide cliff

And Terri decided to see what it would be like to jump off the cliff...

As for me, I decided to take a picture a little farther away!

She obviously had fun risking her life at the edge of the cliff!

That's a bum deal about the Bomb Pits. When did this happen? Obviously before September 8th, 2008 because then when your blog was dated. Do you know if they ever caught who did it, or have they repaired the pit? Thanks Ron Montgomery
