Signs of the times

My reader was right! It was not a light pole they were installing at the end of the new brick median on Broadway, it was an electronic sign! Time and temperature? Or perhaps a scrolling message from the Mayor? The weather is easy--it seldom changes: 85 degrees and a chance of rain. In the rainy season, the 'chance' of rain goes up, and it is a little cooler, in the summer the 'chance' of rain goes down, and it is a little hotter. But over all, not much changes here on Tinian.

The sign is up, but not working yet. And the 'final touches' are still being made on the new brick median.
Work crews can still be found at different locations along the road that is being redone.

And I think that I may have found a new kind of tree--at least new for me. It is not a flame tree, but it has similar bright red flowers.

Terri had a quiet weekend, but we should have known it was not going to last. Last night she received one of those 'short' phone calls. As a third-party listening in, I have found that the shorter the call, the more serious the problem. A long call usually means that Terri feels she can handle the problem over the phone. But a short call usually means that the problem is obviously serious. Last night, around 1:30 am, she received a short call: "Oh no! I'll be right there!"

The information she received was simple, the ambulance was bringing in someone that was unconscious--the worst scenario, because the patient cannot tell you what is wrong. Unfortunately, the individual was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, and Terri had to make that walk down the hall to speak to family members.

This morning the tents were already set-up behind the hospital, as the family gathered to watch over the body until the funeral. I have always been impressed by the love and care the Chamorro people show to their dead.
