Construction update

After a week of monsoon-type rain, I am out walking again. After dropping Terri off at the clinic, I passed by the new police/fire? recruits in training.

Tinian 'boot camp' perhaps?

Houses around the island continue to be expanded.

This house had been inactive for a while after the concrete framework was built. Now they are back installing a finish over the block. Just like another house we will see, this one has no overhang around the roof. With the type of rains we have here, it is hard to believe anyone would design a house without a 2'-3' overhang.

A worker installing the first coat over the block on the small roof parapet.

The rains have caused problems on the dirt roads around the island.

New flowers and bushes are coming alive though...

This and another house are finished and ready to move in. However, there is a problem. The power company on Tinian has not been paid by the CNMI government entity CUC...so they are refusing to hook up the homes to power until they are paid... oh well.

The other 'desert' house that is being built, and almost done! It is beautiful, but no overhang for the rains!

Broadway continues to be worked on, with more bricks being delivered.

A new amphitheater is taking form at a new park, just down the road from Tynian Dynasty Hotel. It is quite large, and will be a great venue for concerts and programs.

It was nice to be able to walk around the island again, after a week of rain. Terri and I are glad to be home, and have lots of exciting things happening right now. My new book has finally been delivered, and I received a couple of copies in the mail to hold for myself (I leave in a couple of weeks for Utah to a book convention where the book will be introduced to book stores and distributors). Also, Terri should find out this week whether or not she will receive a scholarship from the Federal Government that will cover the cost of her PA schooling. If it comes through, all of the cost of her graduate school will be paid for by Uncle Sam!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the diversity of houses being built since it's the same here, but it really surprises me how different they are. And I'm with you--doesn't everyone know that water sitting on a roof is bad?
